Behind the Design

The sex industry - it commodifies and directly profits from the sexual exploitation (in most cases) of young women and girls. Whilst doing that, it also shames and criminalises those who engage in sex work. Women are often labelled as immoral, unworthy and disposable if they exist in this line of work. The dehumanisation of sex working women often makes them victims of violence with little legal protection. Whilst the men who purchase sex are often excused, overlooked or passed off as men being men.

The sex industry has warped sexualisation of women in today’s society. It’s the reason you don’t feel comfortable eating a banana in public or licking an ice cream. The crouching female figure in this design may be read as vulnerable and sexual but that is a projection. There is nothing sexual about her position; she is braced, grounded, owning her space. Her womb is a symbol of strength and creation. She is not here for anyone’s gaze. She is here for herself. So are you.
