We use PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) technology to coat our jewellery with 18K gold, creating a stronger, more durable layer that resists fading, scratching, and tarnishing.
PVD plating is thicker and more reliable than other forms of plating used throughout the industry and ensures that our pieces remain waterproof, sweat-resistant, and heat-resistant, making them perfect for daily wear, whether you're swimming, working out, or simply going about your day.

Why should I avoid silver/gold-plated brass and copper jewellery? 🚫
At Howl, we believe in providing jewellery that not only looks beautiful but also stands the test of time. That’s why we never use substandard materials like brass or copper in our pieces. While these metals are often used by other brands due to their lower cost, they come with significant drawbacks:
- Brass and Copper Tarnish Quickly: These metals are prone to tarnishing, which can cause them to turn green, discolour, or lose their shine. Who wants green skin?
- Thin Plating: The gold or silver plating used on brass or copper is typically thin and wears off quickly, especially with regular exposure to moisture, heat, or friction.
- Subpar Durability: Unlike stainless steel, brass and copper can easily bend and lose shape over time. These metals also lack the robustness of stainless steel, leading to a much shorter lifespan.
- Frequent Maintenance: Brass and copper jewellery requires regular cleaning to restore its appearance, which is not something you’ll need to worry about with our stainless steel pieces.
Our commitment to quality: All Howl jewellery is crafted with premium, durable materials that don’t require constant upkeep and won't tarnish or fade like brass or copper.
What should I do if my jewellery gets damaged or broken?
We take pride in the quality of our jewellery. If your item arrives damaged or breaks within the 1-year warranty period, simply contact us at hello@howljewellery.com with a photo of the damaged item and your order number. We will assess the issue and arrange for a replacement or repair.
If the damage is due to customer neglect or abuse, we may not be able to offer a replacement. However, we will always be transparent with you regarding our decision.
After the 1-year warranty period: If your jewellery breaks due to wear and tear, we offer a free repair service. You’ll only need to cover shipping costs. Send us your order number and a photo of the damaged piece, and we will guide you through the repair process.
What is your policy on lost parcels? 📦
We do everything we can to ensure that your parcel arrives safely. However, once your order is with the courier, it is out of our control. If you believe your parcel has been lost, please contact us immediately.
How should I care for my jewellery to ensure it lasts?
- Avoid contact with harsh chemicals like perfumes, lotions, and cleaning products.
- Don’t expose your jewellery to extreme heat or moisture, as it could damage the plating and cause tarnishing.
- Store your jewellery separately from other metals to avoid scratches. Keep it in a pouch or jewellery box when not in use.
- Clean regularly: If your jewellery gets dirty, clean it with a soft cloth to remove oils or dirt.
Thanks to our PVD coating, our stainless steel jewellery requires minimal maintenance compared to other metals, and it will remain vibrant and resistant to tarnishing for years with proper care.
What is your warranty on jewellery?
We stand behind the quality of our jewellery and offer the following warranty:

Damaged or Broken Items: If your jewellery breaks due to a manufacturing defect within 1 year, we will repair or replace it for free. If the damage is due to customer neglect or abuse, we reserve the right to decline a replacement.

Lost Parcels: If your parcel is lost, we will work with the courier to attempt to resolve the issue. Once compensated, we will either resend your order or issue a gift card or refund.

Plating Loss: For our gold-plated stainless steel jewellery, if the plating fades or comes off due to a defect within 6 months, we will replace the item or issue a gift card.

How does the plating on your jewellery work?
At Howl, we use PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) technology to coat our stainless steel jewellery with 18K gold. This method is far superior to traditional gold plating, as it provides a thicker, more durable coating that resists fading, scratching, and tarnishing.
Our PVD plating ensures that your jewellery maintains its rich, golden hue for years with proper care. However, please note that excessive wear or exposure to harsh conditions may still cause some wear on the surface over time. To get the most out of your jewellery, we recommend avoiding contact with other metals and storing it separately.

Our gold-plated jewellery is coated with 18K gold using PVD technology, ensuring that the plating will last up to 1-2 years without fading. These pieces are waterproof, sweat-resistant, and heat-resistant, making them perfect for everyday wear. -
Unplated Stainless Steel 💧
Some of our pieces are made with unplated stainless steel, which offers maximum durability and a natural grey appearance. These pieces are scratch-resistant and will last forever without colour change. We offer a lifetime warranty against tarnishing and colour loss for these products. -
Sterling Silver Jewellery
Our 925 sterling silver pieces are handmade and crafted to last. Sterling silver can oxidise over time, which is a natural process. We recommend using a polishing cloth to restore the original shine. We also offer gold-vermeil plated sterling silver pieces that will maintain their gold hue for 1-2 years with proper care.
Does your jewellery cause allergic reactions?
Our stainless steel jewellery is naturally hypoallergenic, making it safe for those with sensitive skin. However, a very small percentage of individuals may experience an allergic reaction to stainless steel or other materials.
If you suspect an allergic reaction, please reach out to us immediately. You can also try washing your jewellery with warm water and mild soap to alleviate irritation. If the issue persists, we recommend discontinuing use and contacting us for further assistance.
